Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Corey Gulkin,(formerly Corinna Rose), was named for the Bob Dylan version of an old folksong. However, upon first listen to her upcoming release, All the Things I’ll Forget, you will hear more of the influence of Owen Pallett or Joanna Newsom.

Missy Bauman blends the traditional values of folk with an alternative edge to create “dreamy drug folk” – a free spirited trouble maker fighting for peace and change.

Three in the Round

“Three In the Round” was born out of a series of Folk/Trad concerts held at Cambridge’s McDougall Cottage.  Bob MacLean, former Musician In Residence at McDougall, assembled a series of evening programs at McDougall with his Folk/Traditional friends.

DAVID ESSIG was introduced to Canadian audiences in 1971 as a “talented newcomer” at the legendary Mariposa Folk Festival. Now, 40 years later, he enjoys an international career as one of Canada’s finest interpreters of original, contemporary folk music. Always paying homage to his roots in Bluegrass and Country Blues, David uses these traditions to create timeless new songs. He has released 20 albums over the course of his career.


Silence Presents: The Rob Gellner Tentet

Rob Gellner Tentet featuring 15 Brand New charts arranged by Rob Gellner including 9 originals and 6 standards.

Rob studied Composition at Wilfrid Laurier and has a B Mus in Composition.  He has studied arranging privately with Rob McConnell as well as Mike Malone and  Dave McMurdo for a number of years.  Rob arranges for other groups in the area including a recent Jazz Room release of Jason Raso’s Funktet arranging 6 of the 8 songs on Jason’s  album.  Rob plays with and has arranged a number of songs for Big Band Theory on their album Evidence.  Rob also released an album of his own of his Sextet called What If.   This will be his 4th time at the Jazz Room as a leader and each time writes new music specifically for the show. There will be a variety of styles featured from Blues , Latin, Funk, and of course Jazz.


Willie P Bennett Tribute

Born in Toronto, Bennett was part of the 1970s folk music scene in Canada, alongside such figures as Bruce Cockburn, Stan Rogers and David Wiffen. He released his first single (“White Line”) in 1969 and his final solo album (the Juno Award–winning Heartstrings) in 1998, which subsequently won a 1999 Juno Award for Best Roots and Traditional Album – Solo.

The story goes that the young Australian singer, songwriter and one-of-a-kind guitar virtuoso first picked up his instrument of choice as a five-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing solo wherever he could, honing his craft and developing what would become the dynamite live show that he is renowned for today. At 18 he left school, turned professional and hit the road.
