Silence Presents: Fragmented Forms
October 10, 2024
7:30pm Doors
8pm Sophia the Friend (and friends)
8:45pm Fragmented Forms
Labyrinth Ontario will be returning to Guelph with an innovative nimble ensemble unlike anything they have presented before. Experience a performance informed by medieval European and Makam music.
Fragmented Forms features Jelly Ear musicians Cory Harper-Latkovich and Sara Constant, and Labyrinth Ensemble musicians Aysel Taghi-Zada and Araz Salek. Expect an improvisational feast for your ears!
Sophia the Friend is a harpist and wordsmith hailing from the rugged coast of Wales. A genre chameleon, she has come under the tutelage of envelope-pushing harpists and composers, including Deborah Henson-Conant and Rhodri Davies. Weaving poetry and melody, tradition and innovation, Sophia the Friend welcomes you into the sonic landscape of “hiraeth” – nostalgia for that which is not yet known.
Labyrinth Ontario is the Toronto-based chapter of a worldwide organization founded by Ross Daly in Crete. Their mission is to create a Canadian hub for mediterranean and west-Asian modal music though educational, performance and archival streams.
