A vivid celebration of collaboration from bassist Liam Gallagher’s first year in the Guelph jazz scene! Join host and bassist Liam Gallagher in welcoming to the stage vocalist Maddie Stewart, guitarist Mitch Camacho, trombonist Blair Scanling, pianist Kevin Mak, and drummers Emmit Leacock and Nathan Lawr in a series of trios, the format that has treated so many of Guelph’s intimate venues so well.
Liam Gallagher – Liam Gallagher is a prominent jazz bassist and composer based in Guelph, Ontario, known for his dynamic presence in the local music scene. As one half of the acclaimed duo Gallagher Camacho he released the live album _Five Nights In Autumn_ in 2024, capturing performances at venues like The Cornerstone and La Poche. Liam leads the bebop sextet Streamliner, runs and performs in the La Poche Piano Trio Series, and is a key organiser and performer with the upcoming salsa dance party band Salsa Real. Beyond performance, Gallagher is dedicated to community-building; in 2024, he co-founded the Guelph Jazz Society to support local jazz artists through workshops, jam sessions, and events that nurture emerging talent . His commitment to both artistry and advocacy has made him a central figure in Guelph’s thriving jazz community.
Mitch Camacho – Mitch Camacho is a talented jazz guitarist based in Guelph, Ontario, celebrated for his expressive playing, inventive interpretations of jazz standards, and infectious enthusiasm. Mitch Camacho has been described as “relaxed, yet energetic”, and his musical contributions have solidified his reputation as a figure in Guelph’s vibrant jazz community.
Emmitt Leacock – Born and raised in Guelph, 20 year old drummer, vocalist and creative Emmitt Leacock has made a name for himself locally and around Ontario. Emmitt’s musical background is in Black American Music and Jazz. Over the past few years Emmitt has furthered his craft while studying music at the University of Guelph. Through performing nationally and internationally with Guelph bands SHEBAD, PRRR, and Identity Soup Emmitt has become an in demand freelance player and band leader.
Maddie Stewart – Maddie Stewart has been bringing joy to herself and others through music for the last two decades. Her love of music is infectious, and whether teaching or performing, singing has been an integral part of her life since she was a little girl. After years of singing in indie bands, vocal trios and writing her own music, at Guelph University, Maddie chose to undertake a minor in music and dive into the world of jazz. She has fallen in love with concepts in jazz harmony and met the challenges of improvisation with enthusiasm. She has grown and learned so much, which has propelled her excitement to continue to delve in deeper, to see where her compelling voice within this genre can take her.
Natahn Lawr – Nathan Lawr is a seasoned Canadian drummer and composer whose career has spanned indie rock, folk, and experimental jazz. Best known for his work with bands like Royal City, The Fembots, and King Cobb Steelie, Lawr has also led his own projects, including his solo work and the band Minotaurs. Recently, he has brought his versatile musicianship to Guelph’s jazz scene, performing at The Cornerstone with the Jazz Jam house band, and the Liam Gallagher trio where his rhythmic sensitivity and creative approach have resonated with audiences. Lawr is now looking forward to exploring the jazz genre more thoroughly, deepening his engagement with its rich traditions and improvisational possibilities.
Kevin Mak – Kevin is a versatile pianist, composer, and educator based in Guelph, Ontario. With a passion for a wide range of musical genres, he performs everything from jazz, funk, and pop to Latin styles like salsa, cumbia, and bossa nova. Kevin has showcased his talents at major festivals across Ontario, including Salsa at St. Clair, Salsa at Blue Mountain, and the Festival of Friends. A graduate of Mohawk College, Kevin studied jazz performance and composition under the guidance of renowned Canadian musicians such as Adrean Farrugia, Pat Collins, and Darcy Hepner. His compositions reflect a diverse musical palette, blending pop, funk, and modern jazz, influenced by contemporary artists like Robert Glasper and Brad Mehldau. Blair Scanling – Blair Scanling is a Canadian trombonist whose career spans classical, jazz, and contemporary ensemble performance. A Big Smoke Brass and University of Toronto alumni, he performed with the University of Toronto Jazz Orchestra, contributing to large ensemble projects that emphasized both traditional and experimental jazz forms. In recent years, Scanling has become an active presence in Guelph’s jazz community, haunting the jam sessions and appearing along side Liam Gallagher in Streamliner and other ensembles.
