Tractor Beam is the post-folk songwriting project of Canadian-American producer Sasha Balazic and rounded out with a rotating cast of collaborators, contributors and friends. The band was founded by Balazic in the winter of 2021 while studying creative writing and marketing at the University of British Columbia. The project is currently based between Guelph, Toronto and New York.
2023 saw Tractor Beam release their first LP Turtles All The Way Via Vancouver’s dependable indie Imprint Kingfisher Bluez (home to early Peach Pit and Winona Forever releases). The release had the band featured as one of the country’s most exciting new bands in Exclaim! Magazine, CBC airplay and an 11 date national tour. Through 13 tracks and 16 contributors Tractor Beam’s debut offers an eloquent mix of freak folk and 2000’s indie rock. From soaring cello to oscillating synths and spoken word passages the project is an honest exploration of nostalgia, coming of age and the musical influences that made Tractor Beam.
Courtyard is an alternative indie pop-rock band from Guelph Canada with Isaac Grant on percussion, Jeremy Maldonado on bass, Matt Morgan and Simon Pequegnat on guitar and Hanna Bennett on lead vocals. Years of original material music was brought to life by these highschool friends when they reunited during a long period of isolation. With eclectic musical backgrounds in jazz, country, big brass bands, choral music, progressive metal groups and producing original beats, Courtyard’s collaborative approach to songwriting is genreless, dabbling in its many influences.
