Silence presents an evening with Vancouver’s Jared Burrows featuring the guitarist, composer, and educator in a “first meeting” improvising trio with Guelph-based cellist Matt Brubeck and bassist Ben Finley and then exploring the music of Thelonious Monk alongside Michael Herring, Jonathan Kay, and Joe Sorbara. Burrows’ music draws upon jazz, free improvisation, and European concert music, and is influenced by his frequent collaborations with traditional musicians from China, Ghana, Indian, and Iran. He leads the Jared Burrows Quartet and Sextet, the Vancouver Improviser’s Orchestra, and is involved with many other ensembles in the Vancouver area including Les Djangophiles, Naadaleela Ensemble, Thunder Lizard, Dave Robbins’ Electric Band, Brad Muirhead 4, Colin MacDonald Pocket Orchestra, Len Aruliah Quintet, Michael Vlatkovich Quintet, Burrows/Houle/Sorbara, Reliable Parts, and The Offering of Curtis Andrews. He teaches at Capilano University. Recent performance highlights include concerts and recordings with mrdangam maestro, Sri Trichy Sankaran, and with legendary Los Angeles reed player, Vinny Golia.
